Zalanispace is a crystal sphere dominated by the Vodoni Empire, and ruled with an iron fist by the Emperor Vulkaran. The sphere is named for its principal inhabitants, the Zalani.[1]
Overview[]
The Emperor Vulkaran initially forged a truce with the Zalani because of their fearsome and imposing reputation, little realizing their true aesthetic nature and preference for negotiation. However, as soon as Vulkaran’s spies appraised him of the true situation within the system, he gathered his forces and conquered the Zalani empire within a matter of days. The Zalani now serve as ship builders for the Vodoni Empire. More importantly, the Zalani have the most autonomy out of all the subject races of the Vodoni Empire, simply because they are so indispensable to Vulkaran’s ambitions.[1]
Location[]
Zalanispace is part of a stable configuration of 12 spheres in the phlogiston known as the Vodoni Empire, which includes Vodonispace, Golotspace, Gorthspace, Kofuspace, Kra'akenspace, Lostspace, Passarspace, Salzarspace, Thasiaspace, Vergonspace and Vodonikaspace.[2][3]
Inhabitants[]
The Zalani are a race of black, gargoyle-like creatures who appear to be among the most fearsome humanoid creatures in the Known Universe. However, despite their horrifying appearance, the Zalani are intrinsically a peaceful race, who just happen to have a different sense of art and beauty than other beings do. To them, great gaping maws and huge black wings are lovely. Throughout the greater universe, the Zalani are primarily travelers and ambassadors, preferring to trade and negotiate on behalf of others. They have no idea that one of the reasons no one ‘‘kills the messenger” is because the messenger is so imposing.[1]
