A Planetoid, meaning a "small planet" or "worldlet", is a celestial body that ranks in size somewhere between an asteroid and a planet. A body is referred to as a 'planetoid' if it is large enough for a ship to hide behind or land upon, especially if it is orbited by smaller asteroids. Planetoids are typically roughly spherical, but can be any shape. They are found throughout wildspace and occur singly, or in orbit around a world or a sun. Almost all planetoids have atmospheres, which may be composed of almost anything. Breathable atmospheres are occasionally found to be fouled.
Some planetoids have become garbage dumps and junkyards, as more and more spelljammers sail the nearby stars. A planetoid may also be inhabited by some form of life if it has a breathable atmosphere, usually glowmoss, starshine, or some other variety of plant. Occasionally animal life may be present and can range in size from rats to spaceborn dragons.[1][2]
