A Passage Device is a magical item mounted on a spelljamming ship from the Spelljammer campaign setting.[1]
Description[]
The passage device was developed by the Arcane, who designed it to create portals through the crystal shell between the phlogiston and wildspace.
Powers[]
The passage device duplicates the effects of the create portal spell. The passage device may only be used when within 100 yards (91 meters) of the crystal shell, and causes a large section of the shell, 200 feet (61 meters) in diameter, to temporarily become insubstantial and ethereal, allowing a ship (or anything else) of the appropriate size to pass through. The effects lasts up to 120 minutes, during which time any other ship, creature or object can pass through.
The opening does not weaken the crystal sphere, and anything resting physically on or against the shell is unaffected by the portal. It takes a ship but a fraction of a minute to pass through the shell in this fashion. However, since the portal is magical and strictly temporary it may be dispelled or prematurely closed in some way. Portals that occur naturally in the crystal sphere cannot be dispelled in this fashion.[2]
