Ob is the only moon in orbit around the planet Nubis, and is a size D spherical voidworld.[1]
Overview[]
Ob appears as a featureless sphere of pale grey from wildspace. It is made out of pure granite, and has an equatorial diameter of 2,000 miles (3,218 kilometres). The moon is a voidworld, meaning it has no atmosphere, and as such does not support any known life forms. Ob is in an equatorial orbit around Nubis, and has an interesting tidal effect on its primary's atmosphere: there is always an enormous cloud directly opposite the moon, on the other side of the planet. This "tidal cloud" is roughly spherical, with a diameter of about 150 miles (241 kilometres), and remains about 50 miles (80 kilometres) below the margin of Nubis's atmospheric envelope.
For some unknown reason, Ob occasionally releases a "rain" of thousands of fist-size stones, which fall into the atmosphere of Nubis and burn up like tiny meteors. This "firestorm" of stones never penetrates far enough into the atmosphere to reach even the highest clouds, but creates a spectacular display in the night sky. A spelljamming vessel caught between Ob and Nubis during a "firestorm" will suffer significant damage from the deluge.[1]
