The Mother of Songs is a deity worshipped by the People of Song and Story.[1][2]

"May Mother of Songs compose our safety.
May the song of Her love reach the ears of the fallen one.
May she awaken to hear my song of rejoicing.
May Her voice grant healing and strength to the one hidden inside."
- Kirstig, Elder of the People of Song and Story[3]

Overview[]

Unlike the Father of Tales, who speaks to all members of the tribe in night-visions, the Mother of Songs selects a single priestess to whom she sings dream-songs so that they may provide council and guidance to their tribe. Such a priestess is responsible for maintaining the oral history of her people, which she recites in the form of a song every morning at daybreak. Known as the Morning Song, she adds the previous days' Chorus to the song which she performs before her tribe.[4]

Spells known to have been cast by a cleric of the Mother of Songs include the Song of Wood's Unmaking (warp wood),[5] the Song of the Wind's Own Fury (gust of wind),[6] the Song of Withdrawal from Time (time stop),[7] the Song of Healing (heal),[8] the Song of Speaking with Beasts (speak with animals),[9] the Song of Confusion (confusion),[10] the Song of Causing Fear (cause fear),[11] tongues,[12] magical stone,[13] produce flame,[14] hold person,[15] and dispel magic.[16]
