Matera is the first celestial body in orbit around the planet Mystara in the crystal sphere known as Mystaraspace.[2] This size D spherical earth body[3][note 1] is a silvery, crater-marked voidworld, and is uninhabited (as far as anyone knows, see below).[1]

Overview[]

Matera is a small, silvery, lifeless, crater-marked voidworld (meaning that it doesn't have an atmosphere) that is tidally-locked with its primary, meaning that only one side faces Mystara at all times.[note 1] Matera waxes and wanes in a predictable pattern, controlling the tides and the occurrence of lycanthropy.[1]

Pandius[]

The Immortals of Mystara[note 2] created a hemispherical dome in one of the moons' larger craters facing Mystara. Within this dome, the Immortals have built a city named Pandius, the City of the Immortals.

The dome is several hundred yards in diameter (about 1.5 kilometers),[4] and is entirely taken up by the City of the Immortals. The inhabitants are able to look out onto the moons' surface and into wildspace, but beings outside cannot see the dome or even interact with it in any way. In fact, a mortal creature on the moons' surface could walk right through the area occupied by the city of Pandius and would neither see nor touch the city nor anything in it. Despite Matera's gravity being 1/6th that of Mystara, the gravity within the dome is the same as that of the planet below.

The city of Pandius is densely occupied by Immortals, titans, fiends, monsters, and favored mortals of all descriptions.[5]

Notes[]

  1. 1.0 1.1 1.2 Matera is essentially identical to the real world moon, including size and general characteristics.
  2. An Immortal is an entity that is functionally similar in scope and power to a deity, though there are some fundamental differences.
