A Life Boat is a small, unpowered hard-shelled vessel built and used by most spelljamming races.[1]

Description[]

A lifeboat is designed with one purpose in mind: to convey its occupants relatively safely to the surface of a planet, or to a rescue ship. The life boat is designed to fall towards the nearest gravity well (meaning that using a lifeboat near a sun can have unpleasant results). The life boat descends until it reaches the source of the gravity and lands. Once it has safely landed it will never fly again.

Crew[]

A large life boat can carry as many as 20 passengers, while a medium-sized life boat can carry 5, and a small life boat can carry 2 passengers.

Primary Uses[]

Lifeboats are carried by larger vessel as a means of escaping in an emergency. Each life boat takes up cargo space equivalent to half the number passengers it can carry. For example, a large lifeboat takes up 10 tons of cargo space (including the devices used to launch the lifeboat). Collapsible versions limit the cargo space taken up to 1 ton of storage: however, a collapsible life boat requires 2d4 rounds to be set up before it can be launched.
