The Iambus is a spelljamming ship built by the Arcane for the use of bards.[1]
Description[]
The Iambus is a specialised ship designed specifically to be helmed by bards. Musical proficiency or skill of any kind can be used, but the ability to play the musical instrument incorporated into the bardic helm is mandatory. The bardic helm functions like a major helm, providing motive force according to the bard's experience level.
As long as the bard plays the musical instrument incorporated into the bardic helm, the ship will continue moving. The music created has a soothing effect on the crew, who heal twice as fast as normal. However, the crew and the helmsman are always caught flat-footed by an attack due to the somnolent effect of the music, and will only be able to act in the second round of combat.
An Iambus can be built in any shape required, but typically resembles (at least slightly) the musical instrument incorporated into its bardic helm.
