Greatspace is an advanced crystal sphere governed by House Shambrath of the planet Thesalys.[1][2]
Overview[]
Greatspace is a scientifically advanced crystal sphere whose inhabitants (known as Citizens) are intellectually and aesthetically inclined, and are prone to rely on science rather than magic. Despite their great reverence for the Olympians (the gods of the Greek Pantheon), the people of Greatspace regard legends and mystical tales of times past as of little importance.[3]
Greatspace as a whole is ruled by a single government. Due to the vast distances between planets and the differences between the various cultures within the sphere, the government is loosely organised and rules with a light touch. For as long as most people can remember, House Shambrath of the planet Thesalys has governed Greatspace.[4][5]
Location[]
Greatspace is a free floating crystal sphere in the Flow, and has connections to Realmspace[6] and Herospace.[7]
Celestial bodies[]
Greatspace is a heliocentric system, with the system primary, a fire body known as Lanth, lying at the center of the sphere and orbited by 7 planets, their satellites and an asteroid belt.[5]
Lanth[]
Lanth is Greatspace's primary and is a yellow spherical fire body of unknown size.[5]
Karrington[]
Karrington is a spherical earth body of unknown size. It is lethally hot, lifeless and has almost no atmosphere.[5]
Skora[]
Skora is a spherical earth body of unknown size. it has a lethal atmosphere and hazardous weather conditions.[5]
Thesalys[]
Thesalys is a spherical earth body of unknown size. It has one moon and is controlled by a world empire.[1][2]
Lagor's World[]
Lagor's World is a spherical earth body of unknown size.[8][9]
Longpoint[]
Longpoint is a spherical earth bodyof unknown size. It is prone to violent earthquakes and volcanic activity.[8]
Asteroid belt[]
Between Longpoint and Hecht is an asteroid belt made up of asteroids of unknown type and size. Many of the asteroids are probably earth bodies. The asteroid belt is home to multiple pirate bands.[10]
Hecht[]
Hecht is a spherical earth body of unknown size.[8][9]
Boran[]
Boran is a spherical earth body of unknown size. It is lethally cold and has hazardous weather conditions.[8]
History of Greatspace[]
The Citizens of Greatspace believe that the crystal sphere was originally created by Zeus himself, when he grew tired of the petty actions of his mortal followers in some other sphere. He withdrew from this other sphere and took up residence in Greatspace where he made the sun and the planets as a home for a race of mortals who would be his most highly prized worshipers.
For thousands of years, the world of Thesalys had been dominated by petty city-states who competed with each other for natural resources. Through strenuous diplomatic negotiations and an impending catastrophe, all the nations of Thesalys united under a single government. A powerful and extremely wealthy warrior named Gerion Firebrand saw his opportunity and used his vast wealth and resources to claim the role of Governor of Thesalys. A beastly man, Gerion's plans might have blossomed and his dark rule might have become absolute but for the actions of a man named Shurius Shambrath, who immediately set upon opposing the tyrant. After Shurius Shambrath had defeated Gerion Firebrand, he was acclaimed as the first governor of Thesalys in what became known as year one of the Time of Unity (1 TU). House Shambrath has continued to govern Thesalys (and eventually the whole of Greatspace) for over 800 years.[3]
