The Belt of the Arcane is a magical item created by the Arcane from the Spelljammer campaign setting.[1]

Description[]

A belt of the Arcane appears to be a broad, leather cumberbund-style belt typically worn by the Arcane, with a metal boss. Despite resembling leather, the material the belt is made of is as tough as metal. The Arcane will, on rare occasions, sell or trade these belts, and some have been found in space-wrecks and treasure troves.

Powers[]

A belt of the Arcane is operated by twisting a series of studs. The studs lock into place and cannot be accidentally manipulated by a casual swipe or jostle. If a wearer knows the appropriate setting, they can activate a number of powers and abilities. The first stud allows the wearer to levitate to a given height. This allows the wearer to rise or descend through the air at will, or hover in place. This power can be used as many times as the wearer wishes, though it does take a round to switch on or off.

The belt can also envelope the wearer in magical light or darkness in a 20-foot (6 meter) radius (as per the spell). The effect lasts up to 6 rounds, but can be dismissed earlier if the wearer wishes. Once this power has been activate, it can not be used again until 10 minutes have passed. The magical light or darkness is centered on the belt, which can be removed without deactivating the power. In essence, this means the wearer can activate the magical darkness, slip the belt off and make their escape while they are concealed in darkness.

Finally, if the wearer knows the proper stud setting, they can use the belt to raise a wall of force twice a day (as per the spell). The wall of force lasts up to 40 minutes, but may be dismissed instantly if the wearer so wishes.
